Township Sloup

Gateway to the Moravian Karst

Township Column is the northern gateway to the protected landscape area Moravian Karst and is an important place of pilgrimage as well. The fairs are held here regularly (the largest so-called May Friday before Easter week and the third Sunday in September on the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows). In 2000, the Township Column  won the prestigious title of “Village of the Year”. In 2007, the column was returned to the historic market little town.

The natural landmark of the township and the biggest tourist attraction are the local Sloupsko-Sosuvske caves with the world-famous Eliska Cave, a Stalactite “Candlestick“ and the Shed Cave. Input dominated cave complex lonely rock „Hřebenáč,” according to the columnar shape is derived from the name of the township. From the column are easily accessible hiking trails and all the other publicly accessible caves in the Moravian Karst including “Abyss Abyss“. The column is also a hub for local and trans-Moravian cycling.
